Did you happen to see this post over at WordPress’ The Daily Post? I hope so.
It’s a call for submissions for BlogHer’s Voices/Photos of the Year and the due date is February 28.
I’ve been reading your blogs — admittedly, late at night by the light of my phone — and been inspired by the way all of you chronicle your lives, craft with passion, and ponder the world. That’s why I think you should nominate a couple of your best posts for BlogHer’s consideration.
From what I can tell from the two above posts, it’s not a popularity contest like an “American Idol” where you have to beg friends and family and followers for votes. There’s a category judged by a couple of judges on the merits of the entries — so you can be a relatively new or unknown blogger on a level playing field with the “popular” blogs with thousands of followers.
There’s also a category for People’s Choice where you can vote for your favorite entry. While I understand that this particular category will favor those blogs with thousands of followers and large family and friend networks, it also means that a smaller blog’s posts could find a larger audience.
That’s why I like the way BlogHer set this up — it gives all blogs a chance to shine. And that gave me an idea.
What if we all do this together? Let’s say by Valentine’s Day, you pick a couple of your favorite posts over the past year and link them up on your blog. And nominate them.
Then by the February 28th deadline, you pick a couple of your favorite posts from other bloggers — posts that really touched you — and nominate them.
Beyond the whole contest idea, I’m looking forward to going back through and reading last year’s posts. Do you ever read back through your posts and think, Wow, that was great/difficult/amazing/hard or What was I thinking?
So what do you say? Want to put your posts out there with me?
